We had several guesses for our September’s What Is it. Marjorie McLaren of Anchorage, Alaska, knew exactly what it is. She writes: “It is a molded glass perfume bottle, and related box, produced in 1927 by Les Parfums de Rosine in Paris, France. The perfume was named “Spirit of Sant Louis” in honor of the plane flown by Charles Lindbergh in his famous New York to Paris solo flight, completed on May 21, 1927. The designs on the bottle and box are of a stylized propeller-driven airplane. Stars and stripes alluding to the American Flag are also part of the airplane design.” Terry Cook of Ft. Morgan, Colorado adds “Perfumes” by Randell Monson has this picture on the front of it. It is being sold on ebay for $67.49.” Jacque Rutledge of Northglenn, Colorado and Elsie Loyle of Wichita, Kansas also identified the object as a perfume bottle. Thank you for your guesses.
