Correction to last month’s Letter to the Editor
Hi Peggy,
I just read my letter to the editor and want to make a correction. The orange canary went with us in a little box to the fire lookout that my husband, Jim Jackson, and I staffed in 1960 and 1961. It was the Mt. Thorodin Fire Lookout on the Roosevelt National Forest which was at 10,500′ and 75′ off the ground. We lived in a 14′ x 14′ cabin on the top of the tower which is where Twitter McGee sang when the sun came up in the glassed-in structure.
In 1971, Jim was appointed principal at Mt. Evans Outdoor Lab School where he served until his passing in 1995. We also had a different orange canary at that time. The principal’s family was privileged to live in the historic Dodge Lodge where the canary greeted us each morning with beautiful melodies.
May the canaries continue to serenade us.
Best Regards, Sondra Jackson Kellogg
